Refrains of Nature

November 3, 2010

There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter. – “The Sense of Wonder”

Great day in nature!

August 3, 2010

Had a great day ATVing on vacation. Drove to Greenville! Even rained a little but it was all good! Had a carrot cake and poutine fries snack at the Black Frog restaurant. Lovely time!

Sky

May 9, 2010

Driving to the inlaws for mothers day and the sky is gorgeous!

I visited my parents yesterday afternoon, and my Dad brought in some lovely lilacs and two tulips for me and my mom. The lilacs smelled soo good. I think they are one of my favorite flowers for sure!

Spring Flowers

April 26, 2010

Again. Our flowering trees are magnificent. Our yard is alive with spring.

We have several flowering trees, but the beautiful white one on the side yard is especially fragrant. Our whole yard smells like flowers! And we have lots of wild violets growing by the back door. Little Lexi (dog) keeps chomping the heads off of them, but thankfully they continue to grow. I swear she’ll eat anything!

And today, DH was outside with the dogs, and the neighborhood stray cat (huge cat) was in the yard. Lexi and Mindy chased it out, and it leaped over our fence. Wow, not climbed over, but leaped over!

Anyway, it turns out that by the bathroom window, in a patch of grass, in a hole, there is a rabbit nest. That’s why the cat was in our yard! Unfortunately, one little baby was pulled out by the cat and was dead. We could still see breathing deep in the nest so, we covered it back up with the fur and leaves. We had baby rabbits in our yard before. I hope all is well, and mama can save them. I really hope she moves them somewhere else, because that cat is going to come back for sure now that he knows where the babies are. But nature is what it is. I am getting better at accepting that.

ETA: went outside at dusk and the nest fur was pushed out again out of the nest. I am holding onto the hope that mama came back and grabbed the last baby(s) and moved them, but I have a feeling that the cat might have come back and kicked away the covering and took the baby bunny.

Good thoughts!

Cedar Waxwing Birds

April 12, 2010

I didn’t post this on the day it happened, since I downloaded and edited my photos only yesterday.

On 4/8 (Thursday), I pulled into the driveway and noticed a dozens of birds fluttering in and under the tree at the edge of our property. I didn’t pay it much mind, and went in the house, and a few minutes later, I brought the dogs into our fenced in yard.

I still could see and hear the fluttering birds over by the tree, and it intrigued me. I couldn’t tell what kind of birds they were. They were smaller than robins, and didn’t “hop” around like they do. They looked almost like a flock of sparrows, but their coloring didn’t look the same.

I had to find out, so I brought the dogs inside, and took out my camera and long 300mm lens. As soon as I got close enough, I peered in my lens and was SHOCKED to see that they were Cedar Waxwings. OMG, wow. I was thrilled. I haven’t personally seen a waxwing personally and to get photos was extremely exciting!

I just sat on the grass nearby thanking God over and over for such a wonderful gift!

Here is one of my favorite shots from the day:

Rain Rain Go Away

March 31, 2010

The rain has finally stopped! Thankfully, our house is dry, but our yard is a watery mess! I keep joking that we always wanted lakefront property and now we have it! LOL

But I am grateful that our loved ones are safe, and so are we! Yes!
